DEADLINES

  • Registration & Entry Fee Deadline: Friday, August 5, 2016
  • Submission Deadline: Friday, September 2, 2016

ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA

Eligibility:

  • Any structure or building of any size or project type (including rehabs, interior architecture, monuments, etc.) located anywhere in the world and designed by a New England architect/firm is eligible.
  • Any structure or building of any size or project type (including rehabs, interior architecture, monuments, etc.) built in New England by any architect/firm anywhere in the world is eligible.
  • Projects must have been completed after January 1, 2009.
  • Associate AIA members and other unlicensed architecture graduates may submit projects that do not require the stamp of a licensed professional.
  • Projects that have been honored in this program in past years are not eligible.
  • Work by the design professionals serving as jurors this year (or by their firms) are not eligible.

Criteria: The sole judging criterion is design excellence. The jury is empowered to determine the extent to which design excellence is informed by aesthetic, functional, contextual, sustainability, social or other characteristics. The jury may elect to honor projects by building type or other categories, or may choose to make no such distinctions.

REGISTRATION & FEES

Registration and fees are due by Friday, August 5, 2016.

Fees:

  • AIA New England Member: $175 for the first entry and $100 for subsequent entries.
  • Non-Members: $275 for the first entry and $165 for subsequent entries.
  • The People’s Choice Awards: $25 per entry.

Fees are not refundable and can be paid online via paypal or credit card at time of registration or with a check made payable to AIA Maine and sent to AIA Maine, 71 Beckett Street, Portland, ME 04101. Checks must be postmarked on or before August 5, 2016.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
All submissions for the 2016 AIA New England Design Awards must be digital and submitted at www.aiamaine.me/2016newengland by Friday, September 2, 2016. No binders will be accepted. The decisions of the jurors will be based solely on the materials submitted.

    • A brief, 400 word or less description of the project, including site description, special constraints, total square feet of the project, year of completion, construction budget or cost, any design challenges and solutions.
    • Do not include any identification of entrant or project team in the project narrative section.
    • The jurors have a limited time with each submission. Please format text accordingly.
  • Submitters must agree to the 2016 AIA New England Design Awards Permission Form for Textual and Visual Works provided on the online submission form.

Digital Slides

  • Submissions must include no more than fourteen (14) digital slides arranged in the order you wish them viewed.
  • Each digital slide must be 2MB or less, in jpg format and no larger than 3600px by 3600px.
  • A composition of drawings, images, and other illustrations may constitute one (1) digital slide as long as the composition complies with all other submission requirements.
  • Include site plans, floor plans, sections and elevations as appropriate including north arrow and graphic scale.
  • Do not include any identification of entrant or project team in the digital slide section.
  • Do not include project narrative in the digital slide section.
  • Winners will provide high-resolution imagery for publication after judging is complete
  • Please note: submissions will be reviewed by jurors on a computer and/or projection screen. Review line drawing submissions & text carefully for graphic quality at this resolution.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS
The People’s Choice Awards Program creates a public relations opportunity for architectural firms to showcase their work, increase the possibility of recognition, and generate appreciation for architecture in the region. Any project entered in the AIA New England awards is eligible to be entered in the People’s Choice Awards Program.

People’s Choice Award voting is electronic and will extend from September 5 to September 16, 2016.

Submission Format: Submit one digital slide 2MB or less, in jpg format, and no larger than 3600px by 3600px to the “People’s Choice Awards” section of the online submission form. A composition of drawings, images, and other illustrations may constitute one (1) digital slide.

AWARDS RECOGNITION
Winners will be publically announced at the September 30th Awards Ceremony in Portland, ME. Award-winning projects will be posted on the AIA New England website, www.aianewengland.org. Certificates will be provided to project architects for distribution to clients and other project-team members.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to start and finish my submission in one session?
No. You can start your submission and return to finish it before the deadline date.

What if I want to make changes to my entry after I have completed my submission?
You can enter the system at any time to edit or update your submission before the deadline date.

What happens when I hit the “submit” button for my project?
If you have filled in all of the required fields, hitting the “submit” button will save your information.

Once submitted, your project will be available for review and/or edits in the “Your Projects” section of the home screen.  All review/edits must be made before the deadline.

How will I know my submission has been received?
When logged into your account, all of the projects showing in the “Your Projects” section have been received.

What if I lost or forgot my password?
Click the “lost password” link on the login page.
